The Court of the Lions or Palace of the Lions  is a palace in the heart of the Alhambra, a historic citadel formed by a complex of palaces, gardens and forts in GranadaSpain. It was commissioned by the Nasrid sultan Muhammed V of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus. The Palace of the Lions is one of the most famous palaces in Islamic architecture and exemplifies the apogee of Nasrid architecture in Al-Andalus

The inner part of the coin depicts the Court of the Lions in the Alhambra, the fortified castle in the city of Granada, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984. The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union.
