The coin is
dedicated to the participation of the Portuguese national team in the 2020
Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
The
thematic side of the coin features the emblem of the Portuguese Olympic team –
the famous Portuguese cross and five Olympic interlaced rings (the symbol of
the Olympics). The Tokyo Olympics should take place in late July – early August
2021 in Japan, one year after the originally intended date. The Olympics were
postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
