Monaco 2026 Duchy of Valentinois

The national side of the coin features the bell tower of the Collegiate Church of Sainte-Croix in Montélimar, the historical centre of the Duchy of Valentinois. The design is complemented by the Grimaldi family coat of arms, the coat of arms of Montélimar, the symbol of power – the globus cruciger (orb and cross), as well as the inscriptions “MONACO” and “DUCHÉ DE VALENTINOIS”, the year of issue and mint marks. The outer ring of the coin bears the twelve stars of the European Union.

The title of Duke of Valentinois was granted to the Grimaldi dynasty in the 17th century and remains one of the most important titles held by the Princes of Monaco to this day. This commemorative coin celebrates the significant historical connection between Monaco and the Valentinois region while highlighting the enduring heritage and traditions of the Grimaldi dynasty.
