Italy 2008 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The coin depicts a man and a woman accompanied by an olive branch, an ear of corn, a cogwheel, and barbed wire—symbols representing the rights to peace, food, work, and freedom. Between the figures, the initials of the Italian Republic, "RI," and the year of issue, "2008," are inscribed. Below the figures are broken chain links forming the number "60," along with the inscription "DIRITTI UMANI" (Human Rights). The initials of the artist, Maria Carmela Colaneri ("MCC"), and the mint mark ("R") appear on the right side of the coin. The outer ring features the twelve stars of the European Union flag.
