Greece 2026 100th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Athens

The Academy of Athens is the highest scientific institution in Greece. Since its establishment in 1926, it has promoted science, literature, the arts, and scholarly research.

The national side of the coin features the impressive façade of the Academy of Athens, one of the finest examples of Neoclassical architecture in Greece. Above the building is the Greek flag flying on its flagpole. Surrounding the design is the Greek inscription "100 Years Since the Foundation of the Academy of Athens", along with the year of issue 2026 and the country name "Hellenic Republic". The outer ring of the coin is adorned with the twelve stars of the European Union.
